Job summary

South Eastern Regional College in Holywood is seeking an Associate Lecturer in Horticulture for a permanent 0.5 FTE post (18 hours per week) at Holywood Campus.

Join the teaching team to deliver current courses and assist with future developments. A degree in Horticulture or equivalent, plus relevant experience and strong communication and organisational skills are essential. The College offers a supportive learning environment and CPD opportunities.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English (A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication.
  • GCSE Maths (A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy.
  • University Degree in Horticulture or Level 5 qualification in Horticulture.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant industrial, professional or business experience.
  • Excellent administrative, planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication.

We currently have a vacancy for an Associate Lecturer in Horticulture

JOB PURPOSE

To become a member of the teaching team in current courses of study and assist with future developments.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  1. Hold GCSE English (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication; and GCSE Maths (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules;
  2. Hold a University Degree* in the specialist area in which the applicant is to teach; Horticulture OR Hold a qualification in the specialist area in which the applicant is to teach; Horticulture which is at least Level 5 on the National Qualification Framework (NQF – revised September 2004) or on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF)
  3. Have 3 years relevant industrial, professional or business experience.
  4. Be able to work on your own initiative and work independently, as well as work effectively as a team member.
  5. Demonstrate excellent administrative, planning and organisational skills.
  6. Have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.

* Please be advised that Essential Criteria 4 & 5 will be assessed at interview only.

The above are minimum criteria. These may be enhanced at the discretion of the selection panel.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  1. Have 2 years teaching experience in Horticulture/Garden Design
  2. Hold a recognised Assessor Award (A1 / D32 / D33)
  3. Hold or be prepared to attain within the first year, the V1 Award (Internal verifier award)
