The Role
To provide the National Park Authority with a comprehensive, professional estate management service and expertise in sustainable land management, rural policy, and rural business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice, guidance, and support on sustainable land use and estate management to encourage appropriate and innovative management solutions.
- Work with the wardens team and support organisational capital works projects delivery and partnerships.
- Help the Authority build positive relationships with the farming community and other landowners within the National Park to establish effective partnerships for property management.
- Contribute to the strategic planning process, considering sustainable land management and rural development.
- Develop capital asset management plans, support events and activities on land, and contribute to new Natural Capital programmes.
- Promote and raise awareness of the Authority's sustainable land management work externally, build partnerships, and maintain good relations with local communities, external organizations, agencies, and decision-makers.
- Advise on agricultural, forestry, woodland, and arboriculture matters to Officers and Members, and support Development Control staff to meet legal duties.
- Provide guidance on land, estate, and building management issues, develop income opportunities, and support site asset record maintenance.
- Respond to statutory and informal consultations as required.
- Write Management Plans for land owned, leased, or managed by the Authority, and oversee their implementation, safety, income development, and access improvements.
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade as required by the Head of Estates and Countryside Management or the Executive Team.
Skills and Qualifications
- An Estate Management or related degree.
- A qualified member of RICS.
- Knowledge of land use, land management, environmental issues, conservation, nature recovery, climate change, and sustainable development.
- Knowledge of agriculture, forestry, and woodland issues.
- Understanding of current rural policy matters.
- Understanding of nature capital markets, income opportunities from rural land use, and local markets and supply chains.
- Experience negotiating contracts, land use agreements, and tenancies.
- Awareness of capital works programs, permissions, procurement, including common land.
- Good communication, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, advocacy, persuasion, negotiation, organization, strategic thinking, innovation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- At least 2 years of post-qualification professional experience.
- Experience in a professional role with land-owning organizations or property consultancy, emphasizing conservation and public access.
- Current driving licence.
