Job summary

Avanti Recruitment Limited is seeking a Software Engineer to join a SaaS engineering team in the UK. You will own features from design through production, collaborating with the CTO, Tech Lead and Product Team in a small, delivery‑driven group.

You will focus on Ruby on Rails within a Rails monolith, modernizing where possible, and refactoring to manage technical debt while driving performance improvements in partnership with experienced colleagues.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Solid Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience with object-oriented design.
• Strong back-end skills and understanding of front-end concepts.
• Good SQL skills and ability to write queries.
• Experience in an established codebase with refactoring and debt management.
• Ability to deliver features independently once direction is clear, and to use AI tools judiciously.

Responsibilities

• Building and maintaining Ruby on Rails features from design to production.
• Tackling technical debt while delivering new features across legacy and modern code.
• Improving performance and maintainability in the application areas you own.
• Participating in code reviews, pairing, planning and design discussions.
• Using AI tools routinely and reviewing their outputs with sound judgement.
