Job summary

Jobtailor in Greater London seeks an experienced IBM i developer to design, develop, test, and maintain business applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform. You will analyze requirements, write RPG, CL, and SQL, and optimize DB2/400 access while collaborating with analysts, vendors, and users on system upgrades and modernization.

Focus is on delivering secure, compliant, and robust IBM i-based solutions, with opportunities to work across ERP/CRM integrations and web services.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving IBM i technologies
IBM or relevant professional certifications are advantageous
Proven experience with ILE RPG, RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, and SQL
Experience with DB2/400 database design and optimization
Familiarity with DDS
Familiarity with ILE concepts, including modules, service programs, and binding directories
Familiarity with subfile programming
Exposure to modernization tools such as RDi and VS Code for RPG is a plus
Experience with API/web service integration is a plus
Experience working with ERP or business-critical applications such as finance, manufacturing, or logistics systems
Strong programming skills in RPG IV, ILE RPG, Free-Format RPG, CL, and SQL
Solid understanding of the IBM i operating system, DB2/400, and DDS-based files
Experience with change management tools
Familiarity with RDi or other modern development environments
Knowledge of APIs, web services, or data exchange formats such as JSON and XML

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain business applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform

Document support ticket resolutions in the centralized IT knowledge base repository
