Job description

Job Description Summary

Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, are operated by airlines and Air Forces around the world, and as Value Stream Leader for Rest of World Aftermarket you will lead the aftermarket business that supports our customers outside the USA, and set the direction for how Dowty repairs, overhauls and supports its propellers globally.

You will be accountable for a significant part of the Dowty P&L and will own both the ROW aftermarket strategy and the global MRO strategy. You will decide where we invest, how we grow, and how we deliver an even better experience to the operators who depend on us. You will be the senior voice of Dowty to our airline and air force customers and the person they turn to when it matters most, building trusted relationships that last.

You will work hand-in-hand with our operations and supply chain teams to deliver high quality repairs, overhauls and spares on time. This calls for a leader who can set a clear strategy and then roll up their sleeves to solve the tactical problems that will ultimately enable Dowty to deliver a best in class service, that meets and exceeds customer expectations. You will lead a talented team, with the backing of GE Aerospace's lean operating system, FLIGHTDECK, and the resources of a global aerospace leader.

Strategy
  • Own the Rest of World aftermarket strategy and the global MRO strategy for Dowty platforms, including service offerings, capacity, footprint, partnering and growth plans.
  • Shape the strategy through engagement with customers, internal teams and external partners, using a strong understanding of market developments and competitors to differentiate Dowty.
  • Working with Digital Technologies, Engineering and Sales, develop new service offerings.
Commercial and financial ownership
  • Own the P&L, budget and forecast for the value stream, including revenue, order book, operating profit, cost and cash.
  • Working with the Sales team, support commercial negotiations and agree service contracts, pricing and terms with airlines and air forces, using sound commercial judgement.
  • Manage Performance Based Logistics (PBL) and similar long-term support contracts, with clear milestones, owners and escalation paths.
  • Come to operating reviews with a clear, current view of risks, opportunities and actions, aligned with operations and supply chain plans.
Customers
  • Act as the senior escalation point for customer issues across ROW airline and air force customers, and drive them to resolution.
  • Build trusted relationships at senior levels and set the strategy for customer visits.
  • Own customer satisfaction, including the customer survey and the actions that follow, and lead customer performance reviews and reporting.
Delivery, operations and supply chain
  • Own customer demand for repairs, overhauls and spares, working with customers, Planning and Operations to forecast requirements, secure orders and balance demand against capacity.
  • Work in close partnership with Operations and Supply Chain to deliver high quality repair and overhaul in the agreed turnaround time, from induction through workscope, execution, quality release and delivery.
  • Manage the delivery of spares to customers, working with Supply Chain and Planning to resolve material shortages, technical holds and resource constraints quickly.
  • Manage work-in-progress, turnaround time and capacity planning as part of the regular budget and forecast cycle.
  • Act as the escalation point for operational and financial disruption to key customer deliverables.
Lean and continuous improvement
  • Apply GE Aerospace Flight Deck lean tools (value stream mapping, 5S, kaizen, structured problem solving and root cause analysis) to improve delivery, quality and cost.
  • Drive down non-value-added time and rework, and lead improvement events and projects across the value stream.
  • Lead daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly performance reviews using lean daily management and leader standard work.
Safety, quality and compliance
  • Champion a strong safety culture, not just quality outcomes.
  • Partner with Safety and Quality teams on non-conformances and corrective actions.
Leadership
  • Lead and develop the ROW Services team directly and through matrix leadership across the Dowty enterprise, setting a clear direction and high standards.
  • Prioritise team wellbeing and create a supportive environment, especially during periods of pressure and change.
  • Coach and mentor the team in lean behaviours and standard work, and support skills and career development.
Required Qualifications And Experience
  • Proven experience running or leading an aftermarket business, ideally in aerospace.
  • Financial literacy and the confidence to own a significant part of a P&L, including budgeting, forecasting and cost management.
  • Direct experience of managing customer relationships at senior level, including handling escalations, with an excellent communication style and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in engineering, operations management, product or program management or a related field.
  • Flexibility to join calls with teams and customers across time zones, including Australia, and willingness to travel internationally.
Desired characteristics
  • Ability to think strategically and also to go deep into tactical detail to solve problems and improve business performance.
  • Collaborative approach, with experience of working in partnership with operations and supply chain teams.
  • Working knowledge of lean principles (5S, kaizen, value stream mapping) and comfort with ERP/MRP systems and production tracking tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills under time and regulatory pressure.
  • Experience of driving change with experienced cross-functional teams, and of implementing process changes with shop floor buy-in.
  • Strong leadership experience, including leading teams and leading through influence across departments that do not report to you.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with experience of agreeing commercial terms with customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor teams, senior leaders and customers, in both written and spoken form.
