Route Planner - Freight Distribution (Immediate start, Temporary, Ongoing)

Location:Southampton

Hours:Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Are you an experienced and organised Route Planner looking for a new opportunity in a fast-paced freight distribution environment? Do you thrive on ensuring efficiency and smooth operations? If so, we want to hear from you!

Our well-established freight distribution client based in Southampton is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Route Planner to join the team on a temporary, ongoing basis. You will play a crucial role in optimising the daily delivery schedules, ensuring timely and cost-effective transportation of goods.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning and optimising delivery routes for a mixed fleet of vehicles, including vans and Class 2 lorries.
• Utilising internal transport management systems and external mapping/routing software to create efficient and realistic schedules.
• Taking into account factors such as delivery windows, traffic conditions, vehicle capacity, and driver availability.
• Liaising closely with the warehouse team to ensure vehicles are loaded accurately and ready for dispatch on time.
• Communicating effectively with drivers regarding their daily schedules and any potential issues.
• Monitoring route progress and proactively addressing any delays or disruptions.
• Maintaining accurate records of planned and completed routes.
• Contributing to continuous improvement of route planning processes.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

• Proven experience as a Route Planner, preferably within the freight distribution or logistics sector.
• Strong working knowledge of route planning software and transport management systems.
• Experience planning routes for multiple vehicle types, including vans and Class 2 vehicles.
• Excellent geographical knowledge of the South of England and surrounding areas.
• Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with drivers and warehouse staff.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
