Job summary

Royal Devon is recruiting a rotational pharmacy assistant post, moving between four pharmacy areas to dispense inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, stock wards with medicines and prepare cytotoxic medicines in clean rooms.

The role is 37.5 hours per week, with weekend, late and bank holiday rotas, working alongside technicians and pharmacists. GCSEs in Maths, English and Science are desirable; training is provided.

Qualifications

• GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths, English and Science.
• Willingness to train towards NVQ or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Dispensing inpatient and outpatient prescriptions.
• Stocking wards with medicines and assisting with deliveries.
• Preparing cytotoxic medicines in clean rooms.
• Reception duties in the dispensary.
• Working with pharmacy staff and the public.
• Participating in weekend, late, and bank holiday rotas.

Job description

A rotational pharmacy assistant post at the Royal Devon, moving between four pharmacy areas over time. The work covers dispensing inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, stocking wards with medicines, receiving deliveries and preparing cytotoxic medicines in clean rooms. The role is 37.5 hours a week with weekend, late and bank holiday rotas, working alongside technicians and pharmacists. Pharmacy experience and NVQ level 2 are desirable rather than essential, as training is provided.

What the job involves

• Dispensing inpatient and outpatient prescriptions
• Providing reception duties in the dispensary
• Supplying wards with a medicines top-up service
• Assisting with receipt of medicines, including moving and handling boxes of bulk fluids
• Preparing cytotoxic medicines in clean rooms in technical services
• Working with pharmacy technicians, student technicians, pharmacists, the wider multidisciplinary team and members of the public
• Taking part in flexible working, including weekend, late duty and bank holiday rotas as required

Qualifications
