Job summary

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is seeking an Assistant Service Manager to join the Medical Rota Team. You will coordinate complex medical rotas, help maintain safe staffing levels and work with clinicians to respond to service needs in real time.

You will lead Rota Co-ordinators, attend planning meetings, and deputise for the Service Manager to ensure rotas are covered and costs are controlled. This role supports patient care across ED and acute medicine sectors.

Qualifications

• Organised, proactive problem-solver able to coordinate complex rotas.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with workforce planning and staffing continuity.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate rotas with Rota Co-ordinators to deadlines.
• Liaise with stakeholders and attend planning meetings.
• Manage daily medical staffing rotas for ED, Acute Medicine and on-call areas.
• Line manage the Rota Team to meet performance targets.
• Deputise for the Service Manager and attend update meetings for forward planning.
• Ensure safe staffing levels for ward areas.
• Be the point of contact for escalations and problem solving.
• Monitor expenditure and seek cost-effective staffing solutions.
