Job summary

Rullion is seeking a hands-on Modifications & Defects Technician to join a rail engineering operation, focused on fleet modifications, fault diagnosis and upkeeping safety and reliability of vehicles.

You’ll carry out inspections, testing and modifications, interpret drawings, and work with engineering and depot teams to resolve issues. Drugs & Alcohol test will be required prior to starting.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years' experience in a rolling stock engineering environment.
• Fault finding and defect rectification on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience delivering vehicle modifications and engineering change programmes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic/condition monitoring equipment.
• Production or manufacturing environment experience.
• Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
• Comfortable undertaking safety-critical work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned rolling stock modifications, engineering changes and technical upgrades.
• Install, remove, replace and commission rolling stock components and systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system faults.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and complete rectification within required timescales.
• Carry out inspections, functional testing and commissioning before vehicles are released to service.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical manuals and modification instructions.
• Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Accurately complete work orders, vehicle records and maintenance documentation.
• Work closely with engineering, production and depot teams to resolve technical issues.
• Act as an Authorised Person where competent and appointed.
