Job summary

Rullion is recruiting an experienced Modifications & Defects Technician for a 12-month rolling contract in the rail sector. You will perform fleet modifications, fault diagnosis and defect rectification to maintain safety, reliability and availability of rolling stock.

You will inspect, test and upgrade systems, interpret drawings and work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues while ensuring quality documentation and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years in rolling stock engineering environment.
• Fault-finding on mechanical/electrical systems.
• Experience delivering vehicle modifications and change programmes.
• Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic/condition monitoring equipment.
• Production or manufacturing environment experience.
• Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Carry out rolling stock modifications and engineering changes.
• Install, remove, replace and commission components and systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.
• Investigate defects and complete rectification within timescales.
• Carry out inspections, testing and commissioning before release.
• Interpret engineering drawings and manuals.
• Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Complete work orders and vehicle records accurately.
• Collaborate with engineering, production and depot teams.
• Act as an Authorised Person when competent.
