Job summary

Rullion is seeking an experienced Defects Technician to join its rolling stock engineering operation in the Barton-under-Needwood area. You will modify fleets, diagnose defects and perform technical upgrades to ensure safety and reliability.

A hands-on, safety-critical role requiring reading drawings and working with multiple teams. Essentially you will carry out planned modifications, install and commission components, diagnose faults and document maintenance records.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in rolling stock engineering.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and manuals.
• Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
• Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out rolling stock modifications, engineering changes and technical upgrades.
• Install, remove, replace and commission rolling stock components and systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system faults.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and complete rectification within required timescales.
• Carry out inspections, functional testing and commissioning before vehicles are released to service.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, manuals and modification instructions.
• Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Accurately complete work orders, vehicle records and maintenance documentation.
• Work with engineering, production and depot teams to resolve issues.
• Act as an Authorised Person where competent and appointed.
