Nights Defects Technician – Rail Rolling Stock

Rullion is recruiting a Defects Technician to join the rail engineering operation on night shifts at Barton-under-Needwood. You will carry out rolling stock modifications, diagnose faults and perform commissioning to release vehicles to service.

Essentially, you will read drawings and schematics, operate diagnostic equipment and work within safety-critical environments. A Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Engineering is required, with 3–5 years' experience in rolling stock settings.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years' experience in a rolling stock engineering environment.
• Proven fault-finding and defect rectification on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience delivering vehicle modifications and engineering change programmes.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic/condition monitoring equipment.
• Production or manufacturing environment experience.
• Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

Responsabilités

• Carry out planned rolling stock modifications, engineering changes and technical upgrades.
• Install, remove, replace and commission rolling stock components and systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system faults.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and complete rectification within required timescales.
• Carry out inspections, functional testing and commissioning before vehicles are released to service.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical manuals and modification instructions.
• Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Accurately complete work orders, vehicle records and maintenance documentation.
• Work closely with engineering, production and depot teams to resolve technical issues.
• Act as an Authorised Person where competent and appointed.
