Job summary

Grid Dynamics in London is seeking an experienced Robotics Control Engineer to develop teleoperation capabilities for manipulating and moving robotic systems onsite in a dedicated lab. You will work hands‑on with hardware and software to implement intuitive operator interfaces and robust control architectures.

The role requires strong fundamentals in robotics, C++/Python, and ROS/ROS2, with expertise in real‑time data streams, safety, and validation.

Qualifications

• Strong robotics fundamentals: kinematics, coordinate frames, control interfaces and real‑time behavior.
• Experience building teleoperation systems, operator UIs, shared autonomy tools, or data-collection pipelines.
• Proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with ROS/ROS2 and real‑time data streaming.

Responsibilities

• Develop teleoperation capabilities for manipulation, mobility, and loco‑manipulation tasks.
• Design operator experiences with input mappings, visualizations, feedback loops, and recovery flows.
• Integrate input devices (VR controllers, gloves, haptic devices, motion capture, operator stations) into robot software.
• Translate noisy, high‑frequency human input into stable robot commands with predictable behavior.
• Build robust teleoperation infrastructure for real‑time data streaming, calibration, logging, and demonstrations.
• Develop shared‑autonomy and assistive‑control features to blend human intent with robot capability.
• Create safe operating boundaries, alerts, and state feedback for safe teleoperation.
• Define and improve quality metrics for teleoperation systems (latency, reliability, observability).
• Stress‑test systems on real hardware and in simulation; drive reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with controls, manipulation, hardware, and operations teams to align requirements.
