Job summary

Google DeepMind in London is seeking a Research Scientist to lead development of embodied AI algorithms and models for robotic agents grounded in the physical world. You will work with large foundation models and real robots, designing prototypes and scaling experiments.

You have a PhD and hands-on RL for robotics, and you enjoy collaborating across teams to translate lab results into real-world systems with a strong commitment to safety and ethical AI practices.

Qualifications

• PhD in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience in reinforcement learning or related methods for mid-/post-training of foundation models and self-improvement in robotics.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and evaluate scalable algorithms for robotic agents, with a focus on post-training, self-improvement, and mastery.
• Lead research themes in robotics foundation models and physical agents (e.g. VLAs, WAMs, imitation learning, simulation-based learning).
• Develop scalable research pipelines and robust software to test hypotheses quickly.
• Collaborate within a fast-paced team to execute ambitious research goals.
• Generate ideas, set up experiments, and present findings clearly and efficiently.
