UPM Group is launching a new robotic and large-format 3D printing service tailored for architects and designers.

We are seeking a hands-on Robotic 3D Print Technician to lead the operation of our advanced 3D printing systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in digital fabrication, robotic milling or 3D printing, and a solid understanding of parametric design workflows.

You will play a key role in our production team, responsible for:

• Managing materials
• Operating and maintaining hardware
• Actively contributing to design and fabrication discussions

Initially, you will be an integral part of the prototyping phase, where we will develop architectural panels, furniture, and other creative projects. This 3–6 month period will be focused on experimentation, sampling, and collaboration with designers, as we push the boundaries of what’s possible with large-format additive manufacturing.

During the first 6 months, there will be opportunities to participate in a tailored training programme, shaped around your existing skills and experience. This may include:

• Travel to Bologna, Italy to visit WASP - (Our hardware manufacturer)
• Training in our London facilities
• Access to online technical courses

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain robotic 3D printing systems
• Operate and maintain large format pellet printers
• Prepare and optimize print files (G-code or compatible toolpaths)
• Convert 3D models (Rhino/Grasshopper/Fusion 360) into print-ready geometry
• Monitor print jobs and troubleshoot issues in real-time
• Manage material loading and post-processing
• Assist in developing and refining printing workflows and material profiles
• Collaborate with designers and project managers on fabrication feasibility
• Key role in prototyping and development stage

Skill and Experience

• Experience with robotic fabrication (KUKA, ABB, or Universal Robots)
• Familiarity with FDM/FFF printing (preferably large-format with pellet extrusion)
• Competence in Rhino and Grasshopper
• Understanding of G-code, toolpaths, and slicers
• Hands on Digital fabrication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with robotic milling or CNC machining
• Knowledge of sustainable/recycled 3D printing materials
• Familiarity with AI-assisted print optimization tools
• Basic electronics/mechanical skills for hardware troubleshooting
• Architectural or Design background
