Job summary

Bradford Council is seeking three Roadworkers to join the Highway Delivery Unit at Wakefield Road Depot, Bradford. You will drive LGV/CE or C, operate highway plant, and contribute to maintenance and winter operations across the city.

The role requires physical work outdoors in all weather, accuracy in measurements and records, and a commitment to health and safety standards as outlined in relevant acts. Training and protective equipment provided.

Qualifications

• Experience driving LGV Class CE or Class C.
• Ability to operate highway plant and equipment.
• Numeracy and literacy to measure work and record results.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
• Understanding of Health & Safety at Work Act and New Roads and Street Works Act.

Responsibilities

• Drive LGV and operate highway plant and equipment.
• Carry out spreading and compaction of granular materials and other roadworks.
• Inspect and maintain tools and equipment used on site.
• Contribute to winter maintenance and on-call rota as required.

Job Introduction

The Highway Delivery Unit is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the highway network within the City of Bradford MDC together with Winter Maintenance operations.

We are looking for three Roadworker's to join our team. The positions are based at Wakefield Road Depot, Bradford.

The main purpose of the role:-

• Drive Large Goods Vehicle Class CE or Class C and competent in all aspects of other highway plant and equipment. (Band 7)
• Manual use of use of hand tools in excavations, tipping and filling.
• Numeracy and Literacy to measure work and complete records.
• Ability to carry out; High quality output of Spreading and compaction of granular bituminous materials, Mixing and placing concrete, Flagging, kerbing/edging, Placing, erection of street furniture, fencing works which must meet specification and quality standards.
• Installation and adjustment of various Ironwork and drainage works.
• The signing, coning and protection of the works in accordance with the requirements of Health & safety at Work Act and New Roads and Street Works Act.
• Driving of Gritter in Winter maintenance Operations.Which will include the taking part in out of hour's emergency rota on winter maintenance or other Highways Emergency work.
• Both individual and shared responsibility for Health & Safety of the team and the public
• The post holder will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to carry out accurate measurements and complete records.
• Ability to lift and position materials as required
• Undertake daily maintenance of tools and equipment — vehicles up to 17 tonnes in weight
