Job summary

WSP is seeking a Design Manager for highway schemes in the London region. Lead multi-disciplinary teams across complex D&B projects, ensuring design quality, safety compliance, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Ability to apply CDM principles to projects for safety during all lifecycle stages.
• Experience with D&B or similar contractual arrangements; NEC familiarity is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Drive clear communication across internal teams and external stakeholders; chair design team meetings and ensure actions are completed.
• Identify and manage design risks and change control.
• Ensure compliance with standards (DMRB, MCHW, TSRGD, Manual for Streets) and statutory requirements.
• Coordinate design reviews, clash detection, value engineering, and independent checks.
• Ensure designs are constructible, maintainable, and operable.
• Strengthen project management: manage RFIs, transmittals, and change control; mitigate risks/delays.
• Review design information against scope, budget, and client expectations.
• Maintain accurate project records and delivery programmes; promote efficiency and buildability.
