Qualifications

Job description

.

Equans is looking for a Road Safety Engineer to join our team in Grimsby. This is a full-time role. On offer is a competitive salary, and benefits package.

Working as part of a team the Road Safety Engineer will help embed this Safe System approach to road safety by working with colleagues across the Council and partner organisations to help reduce the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on our roads each year.

You will help plan, deliver and evaluate engineering and education solutions which Create protective and forgiving local roads, manage speed and protect road users, especially the most vulnerable users (pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists) who are significantly overrepresented in collision statistics. Working together with Humberside Police and the Safer Roads Humber partnership the Road Safety Engineer will effectively manage local enforcement programmes addressing the fatal four; speeding, drink/drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone while driving.

What will you deliver?
  • Ensure that the principals of the Vision Zero, Safe System are embedded across Highways & Transport service areas.
  • Identify a prioritised forward programme of local safety schemes through the Council's Local Transport Plan capital investment programme and other funding mechanisms.
  • Work closely with contractors and internal teams to oversee project implementation, ensuring works are delivered on time and within budget
  • Provide traffic and road safety input into the preparation, design and delivery of major schemes and attend meetings to provide support as appropriate.
  • Provide professional road safety advice to working groups and others in the development of road safety solutions at a regional and local level.
  • Have regular contact with Humberside Police in relation to road safety matters including reviewing the highway impacts of road traffic collisions and attending regular Safer Roads Humber road safety partnership meetings.
  • Work with Safer Roads Humber to manage the authorities existing speed camera sites and service requests.
  • Manage the administration of the Council's Speed Management Plan and suite of driver feedback signs.
  • Co-ordinate and assist with the management of a team including a Traffic Technician, Traffic & Road Safety Officer, Road Safety Education Officer and Assistant.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including schools, residents, local businesses, and elected members, to ensure community engagement and support for programmes.
  • Be responsible for arranging safety audits and for actioning any findings arising from safety audits undertaken
  • Respond to Freedom of Information requests and formal service complaints on behalf of the Traffic & Road Safety team.
  • Support health and safety, environmental management, quality management & Construction Design Management (CDM) systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, legislation, and policy changes related to traffic and road safety
  • Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably expected at this level.

Who are you?
  • Have a minimum of a HND/HNC or equivalent knowledge skills and experience in a relevant subject (A)
  • Knowledge and experience of handling data in the preparation of statistical reports. (A/I)
  • Knowledge of accident investigation systems and procedures including safety audits (A/I)
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to traffic and road safety (I)
  • Identification and implementation of engineering and behavioral change solutions to address accident hotspots. (A/I)
  • Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders including members of the public and Councilors (A/I)
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own and others to meet frequently changing deadlines (A/I)
  • Good oral and written communication skills (A/I)
  • Good team worker (A/I)

  • Ability to travel to sites across North East Lincolnshire (A)
