Job summary

Freight Personnel in Manchester is seeking a Road Freight Operator to manage international road freight shipments from quotation through invoicing, coordinating collections and deliveries.

You will source hauliers, prepare documents, handle customs and Incoterms, maintain client relationships, and contribute to a small team in a SME freight forwarder.

Responsibilities

• Manage Domestic & international road freight shipments from start to finish, keeping customers informed throughout
• Prepare accurate quotations, negotiate rates and secure bookings
• Coordinate full loads, part loads and groupage shipments, arranging collections and deliveries
• Source and book reliable hauliers, checking availability, transit times and service requirements
• Prepare and check transport and commercial documentation, including CMR consignment notes
• Handle customs declarations and clearance arrangements, liaising with customs agents where required
• Track shipments, monitor delivery schedules and obtain proof of delivery
• Resolve delays, issues and documentation discrepancies promptly
• Build and maintain client relationships, understand their requirements and identify opportunities for repeat business
• Develop strong working relationships with hauliers, suppliers, overseas agents and partners
• Check supplier charges, raise customer invoices and monitor shipment profitability
• Maintain accurate shipment records and support colleagues across the business

• Proven experience managing international road freight shipments from quotation through to invoicing.
• A background working for an SME freight forwarder, with broad operational responsibility.
• Someone with the potential to build a department and manage.
• Practical knowledge of road freight documentation, customs procedures and Incoterms.
• Confidence sourcing hauliers, negotiating rates and managing supplier relationships.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple shipments independently.
• A proactive, practical approach to solving problems and supporting a small team.
