Job summary

BEAR Scotland seeks a Road Asset Inspector to join the Asset team in the South East unit, based at our Bonnyrigg office. You will record defects that represent hazards to the travelling public and support routine maintenance tasks, helping keep Scotland’s roads safe and reliable.

A full driving licence is essential, and experience in road maintenance is desirable. You will use Transport Scotland’s Asset Management Performance System and MS Word/Excel for reporting and inventory updates.

Qualifications

• Driving licence is essential.
• Experience in road maintenance is desirable; training provided.
• Good computer skills for Asset Management System.
• Experience with MS Word and Excel is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking weekly Safety Inspections to record defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs.
• Walked condition inspections to visually assess the condition of the assets to identify defects that will contribute to the establishment of programmes of routine maintenance tasks that do not require urgent repair.
• Walked conditions inspections to validate the inventory held in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System and to collect and update the inventory when changes are made.

Working Pattern: 40 Hours per week, Monday – Friday

BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. It includes routes such as the Edinburgh City Bypass, as well as a large section of the M8 connecting Edinburgh to Glasgow.

We have a vacancy for a Road Asset Inspector s to join our Asset team in the South East unit, based out of our Bonnyrigg office. Our Road Asset Inspectors are responsible for recording defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public.

Role includes:

• Undertaking weekly Safety Inspections to record defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience of road maintenance(desirable) Training will be provided

• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel (desirable)
