Salary range starts at: £45,590 (negotiable depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

Ready to play your part?

At AWE, it's not just a job, it's far more than that. Our shared purpose is to help keep the nation safe. Could this role be the opportunity for you?

To ensure we fulfil our mission, the government is investing nearly £30bn over the next 20 years in our places, plants, partnerships and people. This investment signals how we are moving into the next generation of warhead production and nuclear security.

We are a large and complex business with five independent Business Units delivering a wide variety of products and services to meet the needs of our portfolio of programmes supporting production of current and future products and services.

And at the centre of this effort is a need to understand and respond to our risks (both threats and opportunities) to programme delivery.

Who are we looking for?

Risk Managers who can help our Business Units identify, quantify and respond to risks to maximise our chances of consistent delivery to agreed time, cost and quality measures.

A typical day could look like this:

  • Building Relationships: Partnering with management teams to identify risks to order book delivery and key business milestones.
  • Assessing & Reporting: Evaluating risks thoroughly, documenting them using established processes, and presenting updates at regular governance meetings.
  • Driving Action: Defining response strategies (treat, tolerate, transfer, etc.), budgeting for them, and ensuring each plan is delivered through to risk closure.
  • Planning with Purpose: Collaborating with your Business Unit and risk colleagues to create and maintain a tailored Risk Management Plan aligned with company policies.
  • Supporting Growth: Contributing to our risk maturity journey by providing insights to planning and estimating teams for quantitative cost and schedule modelling.

We need our Risk Managers to have the following:

  • Experienced in Risk: 2+ years in professional risk management within a complex or regulated environment.
  • Change-Ready: Experience in delivering portfolio, programme, or project change initiatives-or exposure to quantitative risk analysis.
  • Educated: At least 2 years of post-16 education in science, business, or engineering.
  • Degree Advantage: A BSc or BEng in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Certified Confidence: Risk certifications like IRM Certificate/Diploma or Axelos MoR are highly valued.
  • Adaptable & Impactful: Thriving in evolving environments, staying flexible, and continuously enhancing risk practices within your Business Unit.

Work hard, be rewarded:

We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters. In return we offer balance, with award winning benefits including:

  • 9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.
  • Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions).
  • Family friendly policies: Maternity Leave - 39 Weeks Full Pay and Paternity Leave - 4 Weeks Full Pay.
  • Opportunities for Professional Career Development including funding for annual membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Life Assurance (4 x annual salary).
