Overview

Our Gallagher Specialty team is seeking an experienced Risk Engineer to join their team and provide dedicated expertise to power clients. The role involves managing client risk engineering accounts of all sizes and complexities, requiring thorough knowledge of the relevant industry sector. The primary goal is to prioritize the interests of the client, broking team, and the integrity of the insurance market within the risk engineering business.

Utilize your excellent knowledge of industry sector operating practices, procedures, fire systems, and international codes & standards. You will be considered an expert in various areas, resolving sensitive and complex issues with little precedent, and suggesting process improvements and solutions. Typically, you will act as a lead, coordinating and completing work with minimal supervision, exercising discretion and judgment. Serve as a resource for best practices and quality assurance. Manage your work and projects autonomously, reviewing the work of others as needed.

How you'll make an impact

The key activities of a Risk Engineer within Gallagher Specialty include:

1. Arranging individual risk engineering surveys through discussions with account teams, clients, and market engineers.
2. Coordinating and managing survey execution globally to meet client satisfaction.
3. Preparing marketing reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programs, following Gallagher's standard structure and highlighting hazards and mitigation strategies.
4. Developing risk improvement recommendations that are clear, appropriate, and balanced between client and insurer interests.
5. Preparing EML (Estimated Maximum Loss) calculations using the latest PD/BI valuations.
6. Supporting broker teams at renewal meetings and providing risk engineering support as required.
7. Ensuring account risk engineering activities are well-understood by clients and broker teams, including scope, deadlines, and deliverables.
8. Identifying and providing value-added services where possible.
9. Maintaining technical competency and staying updated with risk management developments through seminars and publications.
10. Representing Gallagher professionally during business trips and meetings.
11. Complying with all company policies, practices, and procedures.

About You

• Degree-level education in an engineering discipline (mechanical or electrical).
• Experience in the power industry combined with insurance brokerage and/or underwriting experience.
• Willingness to travel internationally and visit the London office once per week.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload effectively.
• Long-term goal to contribute to the growth of the team.
