We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Risk Consultant, to join Thames Water on a permanent basis.

To be considered for this role you will require a good level of risk management understanding and the ability to build business cases for investment needs.

As the successful candidate, you will be working collaboratively to build and maintain effective partnerships with key cross-functional leaders as well as facilitating improvement activity across the water supply system by providing analysis and articulation and developing insightful tools to enable visualisation of risk across Water in London.

You’ll also be involved in month-end financial reporting, providing analysis and insights into current spending and future funding as well as developing new reports to articulate risk and funding to senior stakeholders.

This is a vital role in the successful identification, management and delivery of risk mitigation and investment. The key to your success will come from your ability to work closely with site managers/teams, asset and engineering and senior operational managers. Your input will assist management and local teams set priorities for investment and navigate the investment process and in doing so ultimately improve operational performance, H&S and resolve customer issues.

What you will be doing as the Risk Consultant

  • Month-end and annual reporting for the portfolio against budget, costs, forecasts and scope as well as feeding into the quarterly budget forecasting.
  • Develop new reporting methods for both PMO and Risk functions of the team.
  • Visit all Area Operations Managers in the region on a monthly rotational basis to ensure an understanding of local risks and develop strong working relationships.
  • Prepare presentations and reports to review risks with the internal stakeholders at risk review meetings.
  • Work with asset management, enterprise risk, and operational teams to build a longer-term understanding of risk and plans to feed into the AMP planning process.

We are looking for you to have
  • Extensive risk management experience, preferably within the water utilities industry who can effectively own, manage and escalate risks and issues as they arise.
  • Comfortable adapting your communication style to delivery teams as well as more corporate senior stakeholders, with demonstrable experience of this.
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills, advanced Excel and PowerBI.
  • Ability to articulate clearly business cases linked to benefits and risks is crucial to the success of this role.
  • Experience with month-end processes, forecasting, budgets and accrual calculations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
