Job summary

Veolia Environmental Services (Uk) Plc is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to ensure site safety standards across the Midlands and Central England with national travel as required.

You will conduct site visits, identify hazards, and help operational teams implement control measures, while promoting best practice and a multi-layer assurance approach. The role emphasizes proactive risk management and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate in safety.
  • Experience as Safety Advisor, ideally in waste management.
  • Internal Auditor Training and willingness to participate in improvement programmes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for internal/external customers.
  • Strong hazard perception and risk assessment abilities.
  • Pragmatic approach to developing practical safety strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and actively support the business on R&A matters by conducting regular site visits to assure the business has the right standards in place.
  • Identify risk and support Operational teams in implementing control measures while promoting best practice.
  • Ensure improvement projects are implemented at site level and track outstanding actions within the site improvement plan.
  • Be part of a multi-layer assurance strategy. Evaluate sites against Veolia Minimum Requirements (VMR) and visit locations to interact with operational teams and observe daily activities.
  • Monitor site performance to identify where additional support/actions are required, escalating concerns to the Senior Advisor and/or manager.
  • Promote good practice across the team and recommend improvements to standards (e.g., VMR).
  • Monitor close-out of actions from audits, events and investigations; support sites in event investigations to identify root causes.
  • Support R&A Team with communication on good practice and lessons learned.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Previous experience in a Safety Advisor role, ideally in the waste management sector, with a NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.
