An established NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant Rheumatologist to enhance its Rheumatology and Acute Medical teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to integrate Rheumatology into Acute Medicine, providing comprehensive care for patients with a full spectrum of rheumatic diseases. With a supportive environment that values staff development and collaboration, you will be part of a team committed to excellence in patient care. If you are passionate about making a difference in healthcare and thrive in a dynamic setting, this position is an exciting opportunity.
Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Consultant Rheumatologist with a Dual CCT in Acute or General Medicine to join the University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust and be part of thriving Rheumatology and Acute Medical teams.
The post is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and offers an exciting opportunity to develop and expand our rheumatology service, further integrating Rheumatology into an Acute Medical setting to provide outpatient and front door care for our local population.
The Acute Medicine team includes thirteen Consultants and Specialists, supported by a wider team with expertise in Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, Renal, and Intensive Care. We value the input from these specialties to share knowledge and ensure excellent patient care.
The role will be split with 6 PAs in Acute Medicine and 4 PAs in Rheumatology, offering a chance to be part of two progressive departments.
The rheumatology component involves 1.5 clinics per week and inpatient consults, with a rota alongside 8 colleagues. Key skills include managing outpatient/inpatient priorities and providing high standards of care. Candidates should hold dual CCT in Rheumatology and Acute Medicine and be able to independently manage patients with a full spectrum of rheumatic diseases. There is also an opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest. The department collaborates with dermatology, radiology, renal, and respiratory teams.
The Acute Medicine team covers an Acute Medical Unit, Short Stay ward, and Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit. They are increasingly involved in reviewing patients in the Emergency Department. The rota generally follows a flexible shift pattern, mainly 0800-1200 and 0800-1600, with a 1-in-6 weekend commitment for ward rounds and ED cover, plus occasional evening shifts.
