An established industry player is seeking a passionate Consultant Rheumatologist to join their dynamic teams at a leading hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across Rheumatology and Acute Medicine, providing comprehensive care to patients with a range of rheumatic diseases. With a supportive team environment and a commitment to staff development, this position is ideal for those looking to advance their careers while making a meaningful impact on patient health. Join a forward-thinking organization that prioritizes inclusivity and professional growth, and help shape the future of healthcare in your community.
Job Summary
Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Consultant Rheumatologist with Dual CCT in Acute or General Medicine to join the University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust and be part of thriving Rheumatology and Acute Medical teams.
The post is based on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site and presents an exciting opportunity to develop and expand our rheumatology service and to further integrate Rheumatology Services into an Acute Medical setting to provide both outpatient and front door care to meet the needs of our local population.
The Acute Medicine team includes thirteen Acute Medicine Consultants and Specialists who are supported by a wider team of consultant colleagues with areas of specialty interest including Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, Renal and Intensive Care. We value the input of this wide range of specialties to share knowledge and ensure we provide the best care to our patient population.
The role will be split with 6 PAs sitting within Acute Medicine and 4 PAs within Rheumatology. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of two forward-thinking and progressive departments.
Main Duties of the Job
The rheumatology component of the job will be 1.5 clinics per week and inpatient consults as part of a rota with 8 other colleagues. Key skills include organising and managing outpatient/inpatient priorities and providing excellent standards of care. Successful candidates will require dual CCT in Rheumatology and Acute medicine and be able to take independent responsibility for clinical care of patients with the full spectrum of rheumatic disease. All consultants see patients across the spectrum of inflammatory rheumatic disease but there would be an opportunity for the applicant to develop their own area of expertise. The department has active MDTs with dermatology, radiology, renal and respiratory colleagues.
The Acute Medicine team work together to cover an Acute Medical Unit and Short Stay ward as well as a Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit. Increasingly, the team are expected to review and post-take patients in the Emergency Department as well. The rota uses a flexible shift pattern that is predominantly 0800-1200 and 0800-1600 shifts. In addition, the role includes a 1-in-6 weekend commitment to cover daytime ward rounds in AMU and ED 0800-1600 and occasional weekday evening shifts.
