RF Design Engineer

We are seeking an RF Design Engineer with proven practical design experience for cutting-edge defence products. You will work on the research, design, and testing of advanced radio-frequency technology for integration into complex weapons systems, utilizing your hands-on experience to carry out modifications or rapid prototypes as needed.

Qualifications

• BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Alternatively, a lower-level qualification such as HNC with significant demonstrable relevant experience in similar work.

Essential Skills

• Proven practical RF (component level) design and testing of RF circuits across a wide frequency range (e.g., 30MHz to 30GHz), including LNA Amplifiers, High Power Amplifiers, filters, local oscillators, synthesizers, and modulators.
• Excellent practical skills including soldering, fault finding, and the use of RF test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters, and VNAs.
• Ability to perform design proving tests and trials in an onsite laboratory environment.
• Good knowledge of digital, analogue, and power supply design.
• Full familiarity with manufacturing techniques and capabilities, including design for manufacture and test.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
• Strong communication skills, capable of adjusting tone and message according to the audience.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years (preferably 10) of demonstrable relevant experience.
• RF design experience for harsh environments (EMC, vibration, thermal).
• Experience using RF design tools (e.g., Microwave Office), including layout.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Hands-on testing experience.
• PCB rework skills.

Pre-application Requirements

• Willingness to work onsite at our client’s site in Stevenage three days per week.
• Existing SC clearance and UK nationality due to security restrictions.
