About us

Halfords is on a journey - building the future of motoring and cycling and looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. We’re a place for co‑creators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of something that’s still evolving.

As the UK’s leading retailer of motoring and cycling products, we’re supported by one of the country’s largest independent vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair networks through Halfords Autocentres. This breadth gives us a strong, stable foundation - and the freedom to keep innovating and growing.

That means real variety for our colleagues, along with the opportunity to learn, stretch and develop as the business moves forward. Whatever your role, you’ll be part of a team focused on delivering exceptional service - using your expertise to solve problems, guide customers and help keep the nation moving with confidence.

About the role

As a Reward Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering our reward strategy, ensuring it supports the attraction, retention, and engagement of our colleagues. Working closely with the Reward Director, you will oversee the day to day running of the Reward function and lead the successful delivery of key cyclical reward activities across the business.

Partnering with our Garages and Commercial Fleet Services teams, you will act as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, providing expert guidance on reward programmes, pay structures, and market competitiveness. You'll build strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate across the business to ensure our reward offering continues to meet both colleague and commercial needs.

This is a highly analytical and commercially focused role, requiring a strong understanding of reward principles, market trends, and benchmarking. By combining data-driven insights with a practical approach, you will help develop and maintain competitive reward frameworks that motivate colleagues, support business performance, and position us as an employer of choice.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a commercial, fair, and competitive reward framework, including base pay, incentive schemes, bonus plans, share programmes, and colleague benefits.
  • Conduct market research, benchmarking, and reward analysis to ensure pay and benefits remain competitive, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the delivery of key cyclical reward activities, including annual pay reviews, bonus processes, salary benchmarking, and reward governance activities.
  • Partner with People Business Partners, hiring managers, and business leaders to evaluate roles, advise on compensation decisions, and support reward-related decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and governance requirements across all compensation and benefits practices.
  • Communicate reward policies, programmes, and changes effectively, providing guidance and training to managers and colleagues on reward and benefits-related matters.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that optimise reward and benefits spend while maintaining a compelling and competitive employee value proposition.
  • Support the development and execution of the wider reward strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and colleague needs.
About you
  • Proven experience in a Reward Manager, Reward Business Partner, or similar role, with a strong track record of developing and implementing effective reward strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of reward practices, including compensation, benefits, market benchmarking, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using compensation tools, HR systems, and data to support business decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across all levels of the business.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timescales.
  • A professional and discreet approach, with experience handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
  • A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, car allowance, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
  • Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
