Job summary

Public Health Wales is seeking a full-time retinal grader to join the Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) grading team. You will assess retinal images and identify the presence and severity of diabetic eye disease using dedicated software.

This role requires high concentration, adherence to standard operating procedures, and collaboration with clinicians. Welsh language ability is desirable; both Welsh and English speakers are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience grading retinal images or similar medical imaging is desirable.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and guidelines.
• Strong administrative and computer literacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Grade retinal images and identify presence and severity of diabetic retinopathy.
• Prioritise cases requiring urgent grading and appropriate action.
• Refer participants to secondary care when necessary and communicate results to participants.
• Respond to queries and liaise with other departments and clinicians.
• Participate in training and quality assurance processes while maintaining confidentiality.

Job description

Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) are seeking an enthusiastic and committed full time retinal grader to join our busy grading team.

You will be responsible for assessing retinal images and identifying the presence and severity of diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy). This is a specialised role, using dedicated software to examine the photographic image in detail. This will require high levels of concentration and review, and extended periods of time using display screen equipment.

We are committed to provide a high-quality service to our participants. We are looking for someone who cares about the people that we see, and who can work with us to continually improve the service that we provide., A retinal graders main duty is the grading and assessment of retinal images and identifying those that require priority grading, applying appropriate action and management to the individual's screening episode. You will need to be able to follow strict criteria, and work within programme standard operating procedures and guidelines. Undertaking additional duties will also be required, such as dealing with queries, referring participants to secondary care and interpreting feedback after referral. A good level of administrative ability and computer literacy will be required

You may need to engage with DESW participants, responding to queries and explaining screening results. Liaising with other departments within the organisation, service clinicians and communicating with secondary care contacts is required.

You will be expected to undergo regular training sessions and be able to comply with policies and procedures for the programme and for PHW, such as participant confidentiality and data security.

You will also actively take part in internal and external quality assurance processes and maintain or exceed agreed competency levels.
