We’re looking for a passionate, driven Store Manager to lead our Alpkit store in the heart of the Lake District. This is more than just a retail role – it’s a chance to make an impact in your local outdoor community, champion sustainable retail, and work with a team that’s as enthusiastic about the outdoors as you are.

About Alpkit

Alpkit is a certified B Corp and award-winning UK outdoor brand. We design gear for hikers, bikers, makers, climbers, swimmers, campers and wild wanderers. Our mission? To help people go nice places and do good things, responsibly, adventurously, and welcoming to all adventurers.

Your Mission

You’ll be the beating heart of our Keswick store, leading a small but mighty team, growing the store’s community presence, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. You’ll bring energy, personality and a love of the outdoors to everything you do.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead from the front, motivating your team and creating a welcoming space for customers and community
  • Deliver outstanding customer service with real, honest advice
  • Hit sales targets and grow the store’s performance without losing sight of Alpkit’s ethical values
  • Organise local events, support community projects, and build connections with outdoor clubs and organisations
  • Champion sustainability and keep the store looking fresh, exciting, and inspiring
  • Bring customers closer to their passions through honest advice and great gear

A Typical Day

No two days are the same, but here’s a glimpse:

  • Opening up, prepping the team, and checking the day’s priorities
  • Welcoming customers, advising on kit, sharing trail recommendations, and ringing through sales
  • Organising stock and making the store look its best
  • Hosting local events, meetups, or School of Adventure sessions
  • Wrapping up the day with a tidy shop, happy team, and money in the till!

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in retail management or supervisory roles
  • A genuine passion for the outdoors, whether it’s trail running, wild swimming, climbing, hiking or biking
  • A hands-on, entrepreneurial attitude. You love taking initiative and making things happen, and have a desire to grow a store.
  • Strong people skills: approachable, positive, adaptable, and a natural team leader
  • Confidence in managing stock, rotas, and the daily rhythms of a fast-paced store

Perks of the Job

  • Generous Alpkit discount for you, your friends and family
  • Ability to buy additional leave
  • Paid ‘give back’ days and a dedicated EAP.
  • Life insurance, critical illness cover, optional enhanced pension contributions
  • Cycle to work scheme
