Retail & Admissions Supervisor HMS Belfast

Admissions: The key roles and functions are focused on welcome and income, specifically supporting the branch manager in implementing their vision of standards and best practice. This includes providing an excellent visitor welcome; information about the ship; entry ticket sales and guidebook sales.

Retail: The key roles and functions for Retail are focused on product knowledge, sales drive, team working and customer service, specifically supporting the branch manager in their vision of standards and best practice. HMS Belfast has one shop, situated in the admissions area.

As a member of the Retail and Admission team, you will be in a key, customer-facing role, welcoming visitors, providing detailed information, and delivering high standards of customer service. A strong drive for achieving sales targets and confidence in actively selling a range of products is essential. You will support the Retail and Admissions Manager in daily operations to ensure standards are maintained.

This role is 22.5 hours per week, primarily covering weekends and one other day.

Duties include:

  1. Assisting with creating daily staffing rotas for shops and admissions desks, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
  2. Using IWM’s till systems and extensive knowledge of tickets to provide suitable options, maximize revenue, promote gift aid, donations, and memberships, and actively sell products.
  3. Exceeding retail sales targets through proactive customer interactions, product knowledge, and upselling linked items.
  4. Working towards and taking responsibility for achieving branch KPIs, including guidebook ratio, transaction value, and spend per visitor.
  5. Monitoring staff sickness and punctuality, addressing issues, and informing managers of standards not being met.
  6. Training and inducting new staff, leading by example.
  7. Handling customer inquiries and complaints professionally, processing refunds as appropriate.
  8. Adhering to financial and cash handling procedures, ensuring security and accuracy.
  9. Ensuring smooth operation of admissions, including ticket sales, change requests, and audioguides availability.
  10. Maintaining accurate stock records, pricing, and coding, and managing stock deliveries.
  11. Keeping retail and admissions spaces clean, well-stocked, and well-presented.
  12. Informing management of stock levels and issues affecting operations.
  13. Participating in stock takes according to IWM procedures.
  14. Maintaining professional appearance, punctuality, and representing IWM positively.
  15. Monitoring staff performance, providing feedback, and conducting appraisals.

This role involves regular weekend work.
