Qualifications of the Respiratory Therapist (RT)
Applicants must have a current and valid license as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care
Needs to have working knowledge of computers. Experience with Point Click Care (PCC) is a plus.
Required Education
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Respiratory Therapist (RT) Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Include:
The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.
Operate and set up equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature, nebulizers, and/or compressors.
Monitor patient response to therapy via vital signs. Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction.
Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently. Order repairs when needed.
Perform staff and patient education. Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees.
Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment. Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders.
Maintain accurate prescribed patient records and documentation.
In collaboration with the healthcare team, develops and implements an appropriate care plan based on patient assessment by utilizing standards of care to optimize patient outcomes.
Work efficiently as a team member both within and across clinical settings to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
Demonstrates competence, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age specific patient needs in a specialty area.
