British Transport Police is recruiting a Resource Planning Officer within the Force Resource Planning Unit in the UK. You will ensure the right people with the right skills are deployed to the right roles at the right time, in a fast-paced operational environment.

You will work with operational commanders and internal stakeholders to plan, deploy, and maintain resources for day-to-day policing, training, events, and planned and unplanned operations, while ensuring data accuracy in the Origin

Salary: £35,754.47 per annum with yearly increments based on performance

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: This role can be based at either our Manchester or Glasgow office.

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available

Hours: This is a full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity

British Transport Police have an opportunity for a RPO to join the Force Resource Planning Unit.

As a Resource Planning Officer with BTP, you will play a key role in ensuring that the right people, with the right skills, are deployed to the right roles at the right time. Working in a fast-paced operational environment, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and maintaining resource levels to support day-to-day policing activities, mandatory training, events, and planned and unplanned operations.

You will help deliver the Force's operational objectives by ensuring resources are deployed effectively, efficiently, and in a cost-effective manner. The role is also responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of workforce data within the Origin Duty Management System (DMS), ensuring information is kept up to date and reflects real-time operational requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised individual with strong analytical and planning skills to contribute directly to the effective delivery of policing across the Force.

What you’ll be doing:

• Produce and maintain accurate resource plans and duty rosters, ensuring the right people with the right skills are deployed to meet operational demand, training requirements, events, and planned or unplanned operations.
• Maintain and manage data within the Origin Duty Management System (DMS), ensuring workforce, duty, training, and establishment information is accurate, up to date, and compliant with Force policies and relevant legislation.
• Act as a subject matter expert and first point of contact for resource planning queries, providing advice and guidance on duty management, police regulations, workforce policies, and associated systems and processes.
• Work collaboratively with operational commanders, planners, and internal stakeholders to identify resource requirements, resolve resourcing challenges, and deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that support operational delivery.
• Support the planning and deployment of resources for major events, operations, critical incidents, and business-as-usual policing activities, ensuring operational resilience and appropriate skill coverage across the Force.
• Deliver excellent customer service by managing requests and queries through the designated service desk system, resolving issues within agreed service levels and ensuring a positive experience for stakeholders from initial contact through to resolution.

What you’ll bring to the team:

• Experience working in a dynamic planning, scheduling, rostering, or resource management environment.
• Experience of organising and coordinating people, resources, or workloads to support operational activities, projects, events, or business requirements.
• Proven ability to plan proactively, manage competing priorities, and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm under pressure.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build positive working relationships at all levels of the organisation.
• Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage a complex workload both independently and as part of a team.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Teams, and Outlook, together with the ability to maintain accurate records and analyse workforce or resource data.
