Job summary

Bridgend County Borough Council is seeking a practical and proactive caretaker to support Bryn y Cae Residential Home in Bridgend. You will perform general maintenance, ensure safety, and help keep communal areas welcoming for residents.

The role requires DIY experience, reliability, and the ability to work with contractors. Welsh language ability is a plus and weekend shifts may be needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, maintenance, repairs or general DIY work.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve practical problems.
• Understanding of health and safety responsibilities and maintaining high standards.
• Excellent communication skills and a person-centred approach.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, painting, decorating and DIY tasks.
• Maintaining gardens, pathways and outdoor spaces to a high standard.
• Completing essential health and safety checks, including fire safety and water temperature monitoring.
• Helping to maintain a clean, safe and secure environment across the premises.
• Supporting contractors on site and acting as a key holder.
• Managing maintenance supplies, deliveries and operational tasks.
