Job description

Carraig View is tucked away in the heart of Port Glasgow with beautiful views over the Clyde, but it is what happens inside that really matters. Since opening our doors in 2021, we have been supporting children and young people to settle, grow, and find their place in the world. Whether it is through school, local clubs, or simple everyday routines, we are here to help young people build the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

This is a role where being present, engaged and involved in everyday life really matters.

As a Children’s Worker in our residential home, you’ll be part of everyday life for the young people we support. That could mean heading out for a walk, joining in with a favourite activity, going swimming, planning a day out, cooking together or simply being there when someone needs to talk.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys spending time with young people, brings a sense of fun and can build genuine, positive relationships, while providing the consistency, boundaries and support they need.

What you’ll do
  • Support young people to feel safe, valued and at home
  • Take part in activities, hobbies, trips and everyday experiences based on the interests and needs of the young people you support
  • Encourage young people to try new things and develop their confidence and independence
  • Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Support everyday routines including meals, appointments, education and activities
  • Be a positive and dependable role model
  • Work alongside colleagues, families and other professionals to provide consistent support
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to individual support plans

Because supporting young people to access activities and opportunities in the community is an important part of the role, a full manual UK driving licence is required.

About you

You don’t need to fit a particular mould. What matters is your ability to connect with young people, build positive relationships and respond to their individual needs. You’ll bring warmth, humour and enthusiasm, while recognising when a young person needs patience, reassurance or clear boundaries. You’ll be willing to take an active part in the interests and activities that matter to the young people you support, whether that is getting out into the community, trying something new or spending time together at home. Experience of supporting children or young people would be valuable, but we’re also interested in people with transferable experience who share our values and can bring the right attitude and approach to the role.

Residential childcare can be challenging, but it can also give you the opportunity to become an important, consistent person in a young person’s life. You’ll be joining a team that works together to create a home where every young person can feel secure, enjoy themselves, build confidence and look towards their future.

We also offer you a range of benefits that you would expect from an organisation that support others.

Firstly, there is access to a wide range of exclusive retail and leisure discounts through our rewards scheme and the Blue Light Discount card. We also ensure that your future and that of your loved ones is secured with a generous contributory pension plan and death in service benefit. Balancing work and family are made easier with our suite of enhanced family friendly policies and your health and wellness are prioritised with access to our health cash plan, giving you cash back for a wide range of health treatments. We even have access to a care concierge service to assist you with life's challenges, providing invaluable support when you need it most.

But we also know that your training and development is important to you, and as well as a contribution to your professional membership fees, we are keen to support you in making the right steps to learn, grow and develop in ways that are right for you.

CrossReach has been at the forefront of high quality social care for over 150 years, providing loving care to people of all ages and supporting them to live life to the full whatever their circumstances. This post requires you to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and undertake the necessary vetting checks. You will also be required to be registered with SSSC and it is your professional responsibility to ensure that you meet the standards and criteria for registration.
