Job summary

Family Care in Shrewsbury is seeking a Residential Childcare Worker to provide consistent emotional support and practical guidance to children and young people in a SEMH residential home. You will collaborate with therapists to deliver tailored care plans, encouraging growth and resilience in a therapeutic environment.

Role involves building relationships, supporting routines, and participating in sleep-ins and shift work while contributing to care planning and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people (SEMH or similar settings preferred).
• NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Resilient, empathetic, and patient approach.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Support with day-to-day routines including education, meals, and recreational activities.
• Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using therapeutic approaches.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to care planning.
• Promote independence and emotional wellbeing.
• Work as part of a team, including sleep-ins and shift/rota work.
