Job description

Main purpose of the Job:
To provide advice, assistance, and support to young people, safeguarding their welfare at all times.
To attend to their practical, physical, and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide care for young people by attending to practical matters related to childcare (cooking, cleaning, etc.)
  2. Establish positive relationships with young people, offering unconditional and positive regard
  3. Meet the physical, emotional, behavioral, cultural, and educational needs of young people
  4. Act as a role model and demonstrate appropriate pro-social problem-solving strategies
  5. Help young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behavior and rewarding appropriate conduct
  6. Ensure each young person’s care plan is followed and updated as needed

To act as a key worker through:

  1. Taking responsibility for a small group of young people, ensuring their needs are met
  2. Establishing positive, warm, and rewarding relationships
  3. Providing advice, assistance, and support on a 1:1 basis to address difficulties
  4. Offering emotional support during stressful times
  5. Supporting young people in achieving their goals and reaching their potential
  6. Supporting young people in education and extracurricular activities
  7. Keeping accurate records and providing reports for planning and reviews
  8. Empowering young people and involving them in decision-making
  9. Acting as an advocate during meetings involving the young person
  10. Encouraging links with the community and participation in off-site activities

To work as part of a team through:

  1. Aligning with the home’s aims and objectives and collaborating with colleagues
  2. Attending and contributing to team meetings
  3. Supporting team development
  4. Maintaining effective communication
  5. Providing and receiving performance feedback
  6. Supporting childcare plans and maintaining consistency
  7. Offering practical and emotional support to colleagues
  8. Participating in supervision sessions as per standards
  9. Monitoring colleagues’ conduct and reporting concerns (Whistleblowing)
  10. Adhering to policies and procedures

General:

  1. Attending young people’s meetings and contributing
  2. Driving company vehicles (if licensed)
  3. Completing relevant training and maintaining an up-to-date profile
  4. Maintaining accurate financial records
  5. Ensuring health, safety, and welfare of self and colleagues
  6. Performing other tasks as directed by the line manager
