Job summary

The Emerald Group Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking an Actuarial Analyst – Reserving to join its actuarial team, offering broad exposure to reserving, reporting, modelling and stakeholder management within a specialist insurance environment.

The role will support the reserving function by delivering accurate reserve analyses, working with colleagues across actuarial, claims and finance, and contributing to both regular reserving activities and strategic actuarial projects.

Qualifications

• A degree or academic background in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline.
• At least 2 years' relevant experience, ideally within an actuarial reserving environment.
• Strong mathematical and statistical capabilities, with the ability to analyse complex information and communicate findings clearly.
• An interest in developing their knowledge of reserving, actuarial reporting and wider insurance market developments.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work within sometimes demanding deadlines.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively across different areas of the business.
• A proactive approach to learning, problem-solving and developing both technical and professional skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Best Estimate and syndicate reserving processes, producing, reconciling and analysing results across both gross and reinsurance bases.
• Prepare and present reserving results and supporting analysis for quarterly reserving meetings and relevant governance committees.
• Produce and review the allocation of reserving outputs to support a range of internal and regulatory reporting requirements, including within time-sensitive reporting cycles.
• Respond to requests and queries from stakeholders across the business, providing clear and technically sound actuarial support.
• Monitor claims experience through actual versus expected analysis, identifying trends and documenting findings for review.
• Maintain and enhance actuarial reserving models, including the annual review and update of reserving parameters across gross and reinsurance bases.
• Support the development of models for new lines of business and the implementation of new reserving methodologies and techniques.
• Assist with wider reserving activities, including the annual reserve report, benchmarking exercises and detailed reserving investigations.
• Contribute to other actuarial reporting and reserving projects as required.
• Support the organisation's commitment to good customer outcomes and strong conduct standards across the business.
