Job summary

The Research Software Engineer role at the University of Leeds is based on campus with hybrid options and flexible arrangements. You will contribute to designing, building and supporting software for a range of research domains.

We welcome candidates with a background in research computing and a passion for advancing digital research practices. Interviews are scheduled for 4-5 November 2026, and the role may suit sponsorship under skilled worker visa where applicable.

Qualifications

• Experience in research computing or research software engineering.
• Ability to develop and support research software and workflows.
• Experience with HPC or institutional computing infrastructure is a plus.

There are three full time roles available.

The interviews are expected to be held on the 4th and 5th November 2026

This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements

The Research Computing team at the University of Leeds is a cornerstone of the university’s research efforts, designing, building and supporting innovative solutions to research problems and supporting our research community across a range of domains including Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Digital Humanities, Data Science, and other data- and compute-intensive research areas. We work collaboratively across the University to support reproducible, sustainable, and effective digital research practices, including close collaboration with Research Infrastructure Engineering, Library, and specialist digital research support teams.

As a Research Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and support of research software, workflows, and computational approaches, while also helping researchers make effective use of institutional and national research computing infrastructure, including HPC and related platforms. The role combines technical delivery, collaborative problem-solving, user support, training, and community engagement across a diverse portfolio of research and service activities.

You will join a collaborative and growing team that values sustainable research practices, knowledge sharing, inclusive professional culture, and continuous learning. The team actively contributes to local, national, and international research software engineering and digital research communities, including workshops, internships, conferences, and collaborative initiatives that help strengthen digital research capability across the sector.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vibrant research environment while developing expertise across a broad range of digital research technologies, practices, and disciplines.
