Job summary

The Design Museum is seeking an experienced Head of Research Programme to lead Future Observatory's AHRC-funded research portfolio. Reporting to the Future Observatory Director, you will oversee budgets, timelines, and stakeholder engagement while working with researchers, government partners and funding partners.

This fixed-term, hybrid role is based at Kensington with 60% on-site and 40% remote, offering 25 days holiday plus Christmas Eve and a 35-hour week.

Qualifications

• Significant experience of research portfolio management in a higher education institution or equivalent environment.
• Experience reporting on the expenditure of public funds in a research-based context.
• Ability to report and evaluate against established KPIs.
• Excellent communication with researchers, principal investigators and partner organisations.
• Knowledge of roundtables, forums, design crits, sprints and delivery meetings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the research programme operationally under the Future Observatory.
• Oversee budgets, timelines, reporting, monitoring and risk management.
• Line manage the Programme Manager, Community Manager and Coordinator.
• Engage with researchers, AHRC representatives and programme stakeholders.
• Drive grant-writing and fundraising to support the programme's long-term viability.
