This role is covering maternity leave for a core member of our research team. You will have the opportunity to use your knowledge of the Private Capital industry to identify and report on trends in the sector, including deal activity, sustainability and diversity, this includes:
- Core publications: As part of the wider team, managing the data collection and benchmarking process that delivers the BVCA's core in house publications including the Report on Investment Activity, Performance Measurement Survey, Venture Capital in the UK, Diversity in UK Private Equity and Venture Capital and Creating Sustainable Growth.
- Data collection & validation: Developing a deep understanding of the BVCA's data collection platform, processes and methodology. Working collaboratively with the BVCA membership team and contacting members directly to determine their eligibility for each survey. Acting as a first point of contact for all data collection related queries from members, providing technical assistance as necessary. Auditing BVCA members' data submissions for accuracy and ensuring the data is fit for purpose.
- Analysis & interpretation: Analysing the datasets in detail, drawing out key trends and preparing statistics for use for the wider BVCA teams and key stakeholders;being able to work creatively with the BVCA communications and public affairs teams to understand and communicate data relevant to our core audiences.
- Market intelligence: Identifying and understanding the full universe of PE / VC / Private Credit funds through review and qualification of data from third-party sources. Using this to improve our research, understanding the BVCA's penetration of its target market and to support commercial colleagues in identifying prospective BVCA members.
- Thought leadership: Working with colleagues to maximise the reach of our research through producing tailored data cuts or specific research in response to data requests from BVCA members and other organisations, as well as any internal requests from other teams within the BVCA. Working with external organisations on ad hoc research pieces, likely around topics such as productivity, regional development across the UK and the green transition. You will also be responsible for producing regular research report summaries for our weekly newsletter.
The role will offer you the opportunity to:
- Join the leading private capital research team in the UK, taking on a key role in running research projects, engaging with people working across the private capital industry.
- Deliver, alongside colleagues, industry leading publications across a wider range of topics including deal activity, investment performance, sustainability and diversity.
- Identify and implement operational improvements
- Upskill on appropriate data packages (e.g. Power BI) to improve the efficiency and accuracy of data analysis;
- Attend appropriate BVCA or other training courses to support personal development
Requirements
Essential:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate high volumes of complex data accurately
- Ability to work on own initiative, problem solving and seeking guidance where necessary
- Ability to work as part of a team to deliver large projects, consulting with colleagues and being flexible on task allocation to deliver to deadlines
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, and respond to ad hoc data queries quickly and independently
- Ability to be organised, think logically and structure work well
- Ability to deal with people confidently and professionally; to be persuasive in why we need members to give us data - able to demonstrate persistence and assertiveness while being polite, tactful and calm
- Working proficiency in Power BI and excel
- Proficiency in Word and Powerpoint to communicate results of analysis to wider stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including MS Teams / Sharepoint / O365
- Ability to follow meetings on complex topics, to take accurate notes and write up succinctly for sharing with a wider audience
Desirable:
- Experience of conducting both qualitative and quantitative research with a strong knowledge of research methodologies and approaches
- Knowledge of and/or interest in broader economic and political trends
- Good knowledge of the private equity, venture capital and/or private credit market in the UK
- Existing knowledge of financial metrics including multiples and IRRs
Training provided:
- The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to attend the BVCA's introduction to private equity courses, as well as other courses we offer. These can be viewed in full here.
- We currently use a mix of excel and PowerBI for our analysis. On the job coaching on PowerBI will be provided by existing team members
