We are recruiting for a Research Manager to join our Research Management team on a fixed-term (maternity cover) contract for 12 months. This role is available as a Fixed-Term Contract to external applicants, and as a secondment to internal applicants.
This role is key to the success and financial performance of UCL, ensuring accurate and timely grant applications are submitted, and that these are reviewed and set up efficiently to enable research to start.
The successful candidate will provide expert advice on all aspects of pricing and costing research activities, including funder choice, funding terms and conditions, overhead recovery, and proposal success optimization. This advice guides researchers and administrators on handling non-standard situations and complex funding calls, in collaboration with the Research Contracts team as needed.
The Research Manager will support UCL departments and academics in applying for and setting up funding from the European Commission, including Horizon Europe, and US Federal Agencies such as the National Institutes of Health. The role will also assist the ERIO senior team in responding to changes in EC and US federal funding.
To succeed, you should have experience in a similar role, a strong background supporting research and innovation projects within higher education, and a solid understanding of research funding issues.
You thrive in fast-paced environments, managing high workloads to meet deadlines. Your analytical and problem-solving skills help interpret complex documents and communicate financial information clearly to colleagues, even those without a financial background.
You are a confident communicator, both written and verbal, fostering collaboration and contributing effectively within a team. You are adaptable, able to work independently under broad guidance, and proactive in driving improvements. Experience with research or innovation management IT solutions and costing software is advantageous.
