Job summary

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) invites applications for a Research HPC Support Engineer to contribute to the design, deployment and optimisation of advanced computing infrastructure. You will support HPC clusters, GPU acceleration, networking and data storage to enable high-level computational research and AI projects.

Collaborating with researchers and technical teams, you will implement open-source build frameworks, apply DevOps practices using Python, Perl, Bash

Qualifications

• Strong HPC expertise with GPU systems and HPC clusters.
• Experience administering and optimising HPC environments (Slurm/OpenPBS/K8).
• Hands-on with HPC build/installation tooling (Spack, Easybuild).
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Perl, Bash) and DevOps practices.

Research HPC Support Engineer

The Research HPC Support Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing high-performance computing (HPC) and research-focused infrastructure at LSE. This role is responsible for the design, development, maintenance and optimisation of research-focused computing hardware infrastructure, including HPC clusters, GPU acceleration, networking and data storage solutions. The post-holder will work closely with researchers, technical teams and external stakeholders to deliver robust and scalable HPC solutions. This role ensures that researchers at LSE have access to cutting-edge, high-performance computing resources to facilitate computational research and AI applications.

Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive of London allowance

Candidates Should Have

• Strong technical expertise in high-performance computing (HPC) and GPU systems.
• Proven experience administering, configuring, and optimising HPC clusters and GPU systems (e.g. Slurm, OpenPBS, K8).
• Hands-on experience with open-source software build and installation frameworks specifically designed for High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments, such as Spack and Easybuild.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Bash, Ansible) and knowledge of DevOps development best practices.
