Job summary

The University of Southampton invites applications for a Research Fellow in thermofluid topology optimisation. The role focuses on developing scalable algorithms within an EPSRC-funded project, building on our existing framework for designing high-performance fluid–thermal systems under turbulent flow.

Applicants should have expertise in CFD (OpenFOAM preferred), numerical optimisation and HPC. Experience with topology optimisation and adjoint methods is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), numerical optimisation and high-performance computing.
• Experience with topology optimisation, adjoint methods, turbulent flow modelling or heat transfer is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable optimisation algorithms for thermofluid systems.
• Extend topology optimisation to challenging 3D problems with emphasis on efficiency and robustness.
• Collaborate with researchers in high-fidelity flow simulation and experimental fluid mechanics.
