The University of Southampton Malaysia invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate in synthetic chemistry. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects involving Dual-Function Reagents, engage in research presentations, and develop leadership skills within a supportive team environment.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the group of Dr Gregory Perry for a period of up to 3 years. The position will be based at the University of Southampton, a top research-intensive university in the UK, renowned for its excellence in chemistry and world-leading facilities.
Qualifications and Skills: Applicants must hold a PhD in synthetic chemistry (or be close to completion) or possess equivalent professional qualifications and experience. Expertise in organic synthesis is required, with additional experience in preparing and manipulating sensitive organometallics/organometallic complexes being advantageous. Beneficial skills include catalysis, photo-, electro-, and mechanochemical synthesis, and mechanistic studies. Candidates should demonstrate an excellent work ethic and enthusiasm to achieve project goals. Responsibilities also include laboratory maintenance and operations.
Research Focus: The project involves expanding work on Dual-Function Reagents (refer to Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2023, 62, e202218371). You will join a creative team dedicated to designing new reagents and methods in organic synthesis, enhancing your synthetic skills and gaining expertise in organometallic chemistry and isotope labelling. Opportunities to explore catalysis, photo-, electro-, and mechanochemistry are available. You will have the chance to present research at national and international conferences and develop leadership skills by assisting in group management. There are also optional teaching opportunities at the University of Southampton.
Additional Information: Applications are open to candidates working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD. The title of Research Fellow will be awarded upon PhD completion; prior to that, the position will be titled Senior Research Assistant. For more about the Perry Group, visit www.perrychem.net.
