Job summary

Lightning AI is expanding its Research Engineering team to advance post-training AI systems across research, software, and platform layers. You will build and scale training workloads, and contribute to open-source projects while collaborating with researchers, engineers, and customers.

The role emphasizes learning new technologies, working across domains, and delivering production-quality software. It supports a hybrid model with some in-office days and remote work for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Experience building, training, evaluating, or experimenting with deep learning models.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals building software and debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity, initiative, and ability to quickly learn new technologies and domains.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across research, product, infra, and customer-facing engagements.
• Comfortable working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where priorities evolve.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and post-train models and build systems to run, evaluate, debug, and scale training workloads.
• Build software, tooling, and platform capabilities for researchers, developers, and customers to train and deploy AI systems.
• Contribute to Lightning’s open-source projects by adding features and improving existing functionality.
• Collaborate across deep learning systems, tooling, backend services, and platform infra to solve engineering challenges.
• Prototype ideas, evaluate approaches, and turn experiments into production-quality software.
• Partner with research, product, and infra teams to improve developer experience and AI workflows.
