The Vacancy The Role We currently have x2 positions available within our Modelling and Simulation Team in Coventry for an Advanced Research Engineer and a Senior Research Engineer. This role is for the Senior Research Engineer (SRE) which will be working on the technical delivery of projects and supporting the development of project related activities across the MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors. In addition, this role is focused on leading a small number of colleagues in the Modelling and Simulation Department. You will be required to understand the skills of your team, their capacity and help manage their workload as well as communicating effectively with stakeholders and wider business.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical excellence across a portfolio of projects, provide thought leadership on the delivery of innovative technical solutions in maturing, promising research ideas and into impactful manufacturing capability, as well as play a leadership role in the delivery of innovative project outputs.
- Raise the Technology and Industrial Sectors’ awareness of the existing capabilities and emerging technologies and support in the development of their pipelines and project proposals.
- Contribute to technical and business strategies by developing specific technical – and contribute to multi-theme – roadmaps that define how technology-based value propositions can be developed to meet the modelling and simulation challenges identified by the Industrial Sectors.
- Identify collaborative research and development funding opportunities and develop winning proposals to fund the development of the value propositions you lead.
- Ensure that your colleagues receive the most appropriate technical guidance and governance in the delivery of their project work.
- Mentor and coach colleagues in an empathetic manner.
- Provide technical governance as required for all aspects of MTC’s proposal and project delivery processes.

Person Specification
- You will be a degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician.
- Strong logical reasoning, abstraction and analytical skills.
- Demonstrate extensive industrial experience leading simulation, modelling and analytical studies, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Thermodynamics, Simulation of Electromagnetic systems or Discrete Event Simulation (DES).
- Demonstrate experience in the management of others; setting and continuous review of objectives, managing and maximising performance in a constructive manner, communicating effectively, with candour and in a timely manner. In addition, displaying capability in managing the development of others; coaching and mentoring your team, supporting in personal development plans and organising training.
- Focused solution/application development for industrial end users.
- Collaborative R&D bid development including ideas creation, identification of funding routes, consortium building and bid writing.
- Providing Modelling and Simulation technical training.
- Leading and managing small teams of engineers.
- Supporting development of engineers through activities such as coaching, mentoring and objective setting.
- Knowledge of one or more industrial sector and / or understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
- Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma.
- Application of general analysis methodology and Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification frameworks.
- Proven ability on project and time management.
