Job description

The role

Are you a talented individual with experience in Quantum Memories, Atomic Physics, Quantum Networking, or Quantum Optics? Join our team developing cutting-edge quantum memories and memory-compatible photon sources, and link them together over quantum networks.

As a member of our team, you will help design, build and test atomic quantum memories (warm vapours and cold atoms) and memory-compatible photon sources based on integrated photonic cavities and solid-state single photon emitters. You will also have the opportunity to demonstrate the use of these sources and memories in metropolitan quantum networks across the university and the city, and become a key member of the UK Integrated Quantum Networks Hub.

We have funding until November 2027 and potential for extension. Apply now to be part of this exciting project and open the door to new opportunities beyond this role.

What will you be doing?

  • You will work on interfacing photon sources with atomic quantum memories.
  • You will have to opportunity to work on cold and warm atom systems, cryogenically cooled molecules, and integrated photonic systems.
  • You will have day-to-day responsibility for the design and execution of experiments in collaboration with other members of QET Labs and the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub.
  • You will contribute towards preparation and submission of manuscripts, reports and presentations.

You should apply if

  • Are interested in working at the cutting edge of quantum optics, photonics and quantum memory technologies.
  • Have experience in some of the following areas: atomic physics, quantum memories, solid state quantum emitters, laser spectroscopy, quantum control, photonics, bulk optics, fibre optics, entanglement sources, or other quantum technologies.
  • Have a PhD (or working towards one) in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or another relevant discipline (or equivalent research experience).
