Job summary

The University of Manchester seeks a motivated researcher to develop and run analytical and computational models of nonlinear waves, floating-body hydrodynamics and wave-structure interaction. You will use BEM and related tools to calculate hydrodynamic coefficients, QTFs, wave forces and platform motions; develop efficient reduced-order models and integrate with an existing coupled floating-platform code.

Qualifications

  • PhD in fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, ocean or offshore engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and programming skills, with experience in computational model development.
  • Interest in applying machine-learning or data-driven methods to physical systems.
  • Knowledge of linear, second-order or nonlinear wave interaction with floating/moored bodies is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and run analytical and computational models of nonlinear waves, floating-body hydrodynamics and wave-structure interaction.
  • Use BEM and related tools to calculate hydrodynamic coefficients, QTFs, wave forces and motions; develop efficient reduced-order models.
  • Integrate methods with an existing coupled floating-platform code and validate against numerical/experimental/field data.
  • Publish the research and contribute to supervision and collaboration efforts.
