Job summary

The University of Manchester invites applications for a research-focused position addressing nonlinear wave input, second-order drift forcing and higher-order platform response. The successful candidate will develop analytical and computational models using BEM, QTFs and reduced-order techniques, interfacing with an established floating-platform code and validating against data.

Qualifications

  • PhD in fluid mechanics or a closely related discipline or nearing completion.
  • Strong analytical and programming skills for modelling and data analysis.
  • Experience with nonlinear wave-structure interaction and hydraulics is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and run analytical and computational models of nonlinear waves and floating-body hydrodynamics.
  • Use BEM and related tools to compute hydrodynamic coefficients, QTFs, wave forces and motions.
  • Develop efficient reduced-order models and integrate with existing coupled codes.
  • Verify and validate models with numerical, experimental and field data.
  • Publish results, present at conferences, and contribute to supervision and collaborations.
